The Adrenalin Motorsport Team Alzner Automotive has accomplished it again. For the fourth time in a row, the team led by team manager Matthias Unger secured the championship title in the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) last weekend.
With this historic and unprecedented fourth consecutive title, the team continues to write a remarkable success story in the Nordschleife championship. In addition to the overall NLS title, class championships in VT2, V4, and V6 were won, along with triumphs in the NLS production car classification and the Trophy classification of the BMW M2 CS Racing Cup.
“The relief after this exciting thriller at the season finale is huge. We experienced an emotional rollercoaster that we definitely didn’t need, with such an adrenaline kick,” said Matthias Unger.
“After our ’481 Mainhatten-Wheels BMW 330i G20 was hit by a GT3 car and knocked out of the championship fight, I thought it was all over. But then, we were a bit lucky when the tide turned against our direct championship competitors, and our BMW 325i E90 remained eligible due to the minimum standstill time.
I’m very happy for Danny Brink and Philipp Leisen that they successfully defended their title with eight wins this season.
At the same time, a second heart beats in my chest for Daniel Zils, Philipp Stahlschmidt, and Christopher Rink. I’m incredibly sorry for the trio, who were so close to a great triumph and would have deserved it just as much.”
For Danny Brink and Philipp Leisen, this marks their third NLS championship title after previous wins in 2018 and 2020. The duo also secured a flawless eight-out-of-eight win record, clinching the production car classification and the V4 class title.
“I was only informed via radio shortly before the end that I should bring home the number one—again. I couldn’t believe it at first,” said Brink.
Leisen added: “We came into the race without expectations because we had the worst starting position among the three contenders. It’s simply unbelievable—what happened here today hasn’t fully sunk in.”
One thing was clear to both drivers: “We won this championship as a trio—together with Christopher Rink. Even if he isn’t officially listed as a champion because he scored his points with the other car, he played a major role in this success.”
A collision with a GT3 car about 80 minutes before the end of the race damaged the No. 481 Mainhatten-Wheels BMW 330i G20, destroying a damper pipe and effectively ending the car's championship hopes. Before the incident, Philipp Stahlschmidt, Daniel Zils, and Christopher Rink had been on track for the title.
Despite the setback, the team performed a rapid repair and got the car back on track to finish fifth in the VT2 class—a remarkable result given the circumstances. The trio ended the season third overall in the NLS and second in the production car classification, while securing the VT2 class championship.
The sister car, the No. 482 Mainhatten-Wheels BMW 330i G20 driven by Jacob Erlbacher, Uwe Ebertz, and Markus Flasch, finished ninth in class.
In class V6, the team secured another title with the No. 396 NEXEN-TIRES Porsche Cayman. Lutz Marc Rühl, Daniel Zils, Christian Büllesbach, and Andreas Schettler won seven of eight races this season, sealing the class championship.
David Griessner, Yannick Fübrich, and Francesco Merlini concluded a strong season with a win in the final race, driving the No. 870 Alzner Automotive BMW M2 CS Racing. The trio finished as runners-up in the drivers' standings, and the team also placed second in the CUP5 team standings.
Stefan Kruse successfully defended his title in the Gentlemen classification. After wins in the BMW M240i Racing Cup in previous years, he triumphed again—this time with Charles Oakes and Guido Wirtz in the Trophy classification. Teammate Einar Thorsen finished second overall. Together, the quartet finished fifth in class CUP5 in the final race and secured the Trophy classification title.
In class V5, Ulrich and Tobias Korn once again drove the No. 44 Porsche Cayman to the podium. They secured second place both in the race and in the annual V5 standings. At the season finale, they shared the car with Dutch driver Loek Hartog. Thanks to consistent performances throughout the season, the Korn family led the Adrenalin Motorsport Team Alzner Automotive to victory in the NIMEX team trophy for V5.
In the BMW M240i class, Lars Harbeck, Sven Markert, and Robin Reimer finished second in the No. 650 Veedol BMW M240i. Michael Lüthi, Rudolfo Funaro, and Jacob Schell came in fourth, ahead of Max Lamesch, André, and Roger Stutz in sixth place with the No. 652 SSB Wägungstechnik car.
“All in all, we’ve had another outstanding season, as these impressive results show,” concluded team manager Matthias Unger.
“My thanks go to the entire crew and all the drivers who made this possible. Everyone did a phenomenal job, and I’m already looking forward to the 2022 season.”
